"The band was founded in 2007 by multi-instrumentalist Kevin Thiessen and Calvin Shiu. Thiessen is responsible for 7 and 12 string electric and acoustic guitars, bass, mandolin, synthesizers, programming, percussion and voice. Shiu plays shamisen, which is a 3-string traditional Japanese lute instrument. This adds a very special "note" to the album. The third man in the trio is drummer Kyle Sheppard.
It was decided to combine metal and prog elements as well as ambient trends, and this was excellently achieved on their début release. On the many short and varied instrumental pieces they have created a very enjoyable sound with innovative guitar arrangements, percussion and keyboard play. It switches from pleasant fusion to melodic prog, where the string works are dominant.
And to finish it off, they have a surprise: they sing....and pretty impressively. The song is the easy recognisable and well rearranged classic "Playing The Game" by Gentle Giant. The guest here is singer Geoff Ross. I really look forward to their next album release and would love to hear even more vocal tracks.
